Malachi Ritscher fue uno de los más grandes fans y promotores del free jazz de Chicago. Tras varios años de asistir incansablemente a los conciertos de la AACM y de gente como Fred Anderson y Von Freeman, e inspirado por la nueva generación de improvisadores comandada por el saxofonista Ken Vandermark, Malachi decidió extender su compromiso con la escena local por lo que adquirió y aprendió a dominar un sofisticado equipo de grabación portátil y se dedicó a grabar sin falta todos los conciertos de free jazz a los que acudía, sin dejar nunca de pagar el boleto de entrada de los mismos y sin aceptar retribución monetaria a cambio de las grabaciones que puntualmente entregaba a los músicos pocos días después de los conciertos. También las masterizaba y editaba como un ingeniero de audio profesional. Su archivo personal constaba de 2,000 títulos, de los cuales al menos unos 80 se han convertido en discos oficiales editados por sellos seminales como Okka, Emanem y Cadence, entre los cuales destacan los siguientes:

Malachi fue también un activista político en contra de la guerra desde los 70's.
El 3 de noviembre del 2006 salió de su casa a las 7 de la mañana con un bote de gasolina, se paró en la esquina de una transitadísima avenida del centro de Chicago, se roció el líquido y se prendió fuego, muriendo al cabo de unos minutos. Cerca de su cuerpo se encontró una nota que decía "No Matarás", y poco después fueron encontrados en su página de internet un obituario y una nota de despedida en las que explicaba el sentido de la última protesta realizada en su vida, y relacionaba su sacrificio con la larga tradición de auto-inmolaciones como forma de protesta política que empezó con los monjes budistas que lo hicieron tras los crímenes del gobierno vietnamita.

Si de algún subgenero barato me considero intelectualmente incondicional,ese es el "underground hardcore" = "hardcore jazz"(y me río de Patton).
Más creatividad y mucho menos simbolísmo water Vs aquí te pillo aquí te mato.No.El under hardcore es algo muy serio.
El jazz ha formado a los mejores hiphoperos(qué fea descripción) de mi generación.Me temo.
El "jazz hop" no existe.Es una gran mentira.Una de tantas etiquetuchas pretenciosas que como tal reúne lo peor de la corriente artística,desde luego lo menos vocacional.
Bonobo y todas esas "deformaciones" al uso,ya se sabe, forman parte de otro universo popular.
Practicamente todo el mejor underground hardcore representa una y otra vez la pura esencia terrorísta del jazz de vanguardia. Nació,se reprodujo,pudo morir,y pudo renacer cuantas veces podamos imaginar a lo largo de la história del género.
La rima es jazz hablado y cantado.La voz es instrumento.El free jazz se ha estado rebautizando una y otra vez.Y yo sigo pensando que el mensaje es variación aderezada.
Y el talento musical será infinitamente más valorado que la prosa misma.

"Ain't No Love" de Real Live : se puede ser más friki?
El más difícil todavía : Real Live sampleando a David Coverdale (un tema de Whitesnake)!
Impresionante el nivelazo rockero (europeo) de Real Live.No todo el mundo conoce el brillante pasado rockero de Coverdale(le dije adiós hace mucho tiempo,justo cuando su música,a pasos agigantados empezaba a americanizarse).(Ya se sabe : al César...).No todo el mundo siguió los pasos de un "sustituto"(sepan que tiene buen disco en solitario,antes de Purple).
No hay nada más espantoso que el rock británico americanizado,se convierte en glam AOR de la noche a la mañana.
Pero es cierto que el digno sucesor de Gillan tuvo su momentazo y llegó a ser muy respetado en el mundo del rock,al margen de las cenizas de los Purple,triunfó por propios medios,especialmente antes del Live desde el corazón de la city(finales de década 70,no?)estaba considerado uno de los mejores cantantes solístas de Rock & Blues.
Sin considerarlo un temazo,desde luego que Whitesnake tiene temazos mucho más buenos, me parece curiosísimo el tributo.

A Free Style in Baltimore
Labtekwon es un crack del free y ya está.Por eso está entre los 10 mejores mercenarios del under,en cuánto a mi lista particular.
Tiene un tono de voz absolutamente acojonante.Por ahí se empieza muy bien.
Su tremendo sentido de la impro(free stilazo),columpiándose de contínuo comodísimo en el tiempo y en el espacio,hacen de su forma de rimar un reflejo fiel del último legado free jazz(el más revolucionario de todos los movimientos purístas,contradictorio si,pero en cierta medida era cierto que había un retorno a lo primitivo).Me toca la fibra, yo soy una incondicional del free absurdo sesentero.Como obsesiva oyente anduve enganchada mucho tiempo,fiel a los más "terrorístas" que okuparon la zona industrial de Brooklyn en los años más duros de sus trayectorias,reconocidas pero siempre infravaloradas.
Es un jazzero nato.Bueno:todos los hiphoperos lo son,aunque no lo sepan.Su real(hip hop),no lo es tanto cómo se le pretende etiquetar.Aún suponiendo que yo aceptase esa pobre etiqueta en referencia a éste tipo,siempre estaría hablando del Real más siniestro.
